A eukaryotic cell is any organism whose cells contain a nucleus and other organelles enclosed within membranes. Eukaryotic cells are much more complicated than those of prokaryotes. They contain many subcellular structures that have an important role in energy balance, metabolism, and gene expression. They have a vast genre of compartments with specialized functions, separated from one another by layers of membrane.
Cytoplasm; the material or protoplasm within a living cell, excluding the nucleus.
Ribosome; a tiny, somewhat mitten-shaped organelle occurring in great numbers in the cell cytoplasm either freely, in small clusters, or attached to the outer surfaces of endoplasmic reticula, and functioning as the site of protein manufacture.
Flagella; a slender threadlike structure, especially a microscopic whip like appendage that enables many protozoa, bacteria, spermatozoa, etc., to swim.
Nucleus; the central and most important part of an object, movement, or group, forming the basis for its activity and growth.
Plasma membrane; a microscopic membrane of lipids and proteins that forms the external boundary of the cytoplasm of a cell or encloses a vacuole, and that regulates the passage of molecules in and out of the cytoplasm.
Organelle; any of several organized or specialized structures within a living cell.
